Sarojini Naidu was born on February 13, 1879 in Hyderabad. Mother Baradasundari Devi, Poet. Her father, Aghornath Chattopadhyay, was the first Principal of the then Hyderabad College (now Nizam's College). He spoke eight languages.

Since childhood, she was curious to know any subject thoroughly. She used to ask his uncles about her doubts. She would do anything with perseverance. She learned to speak English fluently at the age of eleven. She learned Urdu, Telugu, English, Persian and Bengali languages ​​with the encouragement of his grandparents. Active in studies. In 1891, she took the matriculation examination at Madras Presidency College and topped the state. She was 12 years old then. Admiring her intelligence, then the Nizam Nawab 'Fatejung Mir Mahbub Ali Khan (Asaf Jha-4)' sent her abroad for higher education. He also bore the cost there.


Wrote poems

She studied at King's College, London and Cambridge University. Being interested in books, she gained a lot of knowledge through them. She used to write stories and poems in Bengali while studying. You know! She is 13 years old the same year she wrote a book called Sarovar Rani (Lady of Lake). English language critics who read her poems, Arthur Simons and Edward Goose, praised her. After that she wrote volumes of poems like Swargadwaram (Golden Threshold), Kalavihangam (The Bird of Time) and Kureni Rekka (The Broken Wing). It is with these works that he became known as 'Indian Cuckoo'.



About change in the people

On December 2, 1898 Muthyala Govinda rajulu married Naidu. Sarojini Naidu is very patriotic. In 1906, Sabhas were organized for women's education with the aim of educating girls. After that she participated in the freedom movements under the leadership of Gopalakrishna Gokhale. She does not like superstitions. Worked for abolition of untouchability. On March 22, 1912, the Muslim League Congress was held at Lucknow. There she was saying Hindu-Muslim Bhai Bhai and everything together they raised the slogan of 'throw out the British'. He enlightened people with his lectures and writings. Participated in the round table conference and surprised everyone with his speech. Joined Gandhiji and became his follower. She also participated in the Salt Satyagraha and the Quit India movements of 1942. Then the British government said, 'We will not settle if we sell the history books of the independence movement' warned. But on the advice of Gandhiji, Sarojini Naidu sold all those books and fought against the government. In recognition of her services, she was appointed as the Governor of Uttar Pradesh (then United Provinces of Agra and Avath) on 15 August 1947 by the government. Sarojini Naidu, who lived for the purpose of public service, passed away on March 2, 1949 in Lucknow. In her memory, the Government of India issued postage bills with her image on February 13, 1964.
