Transplantation experiments that began in the 18th century became successful in the 20th century. Richard and Ronald Herrick were twins. Among them, Richard needed a kidney. Ronald gave one of his kidneys. Dr.Joseph, Arranged for Richard under Dr.David Hume. This treatment was done in 1954 in Boston (USA). This is the 'first human organ transplant' in medical history. The first organ transplant in our country was done in 1965. It was held at the King Edward Memorial Hospital in Mumbai. This is a kidney transplant treatment.

Collect the person's heart as soon as man dies.If a heart is transplanted into a person in need within six hours, they can survive. Similarly, a person with liver problem can be changed within 12 hours, lungs in 6 hours, pancreas in 24 hours and kidneys in two days. It is said that 18 people can be given new lives with the organs of a deceased person.

Every year for organ donation in our country 5 lakh people are waiting. About 2.5 lakh people are dying due to lack of organs. About 290 people die of kidney failure every five minutes. There are 2 lakh people who need kidneys, 85 thousand people with liver problems and thousands of people with heart problems.

Solution for this 

Nearly 1.5 lakh people met with accident annually and more due to for other reasons people are dying. In this 5-10 percent of them even if people come forward to donate organs a lot of people can survive.

How to register...


Those who wish to donate their organs whether dead or dying can register in advance on some official websites. A decision can be changed later for any reason. UNOS (National Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network) is waiting for organ donors. If donors are willing, local organizations will provide information to UNOS. They send medical reports about the blood type, tissue, organ size and health status of the patient regarding the donor. The donation center identifies who needs which organ. The computer will release the list with the details of donors and those who need it.
